Skilled tradespeople – including carpenters, construction workers, electricians, HVAC, plumbers, and welders – are in critical demand throughout the State of Texas and nationally. As a result, there has never been a better time to enter these industries and begin a high-demand, high-wage career. Here are a few reasons why you should consider a skilled trades career:

In today’s constantly evolving job market, one thing remains steady – the growing demand for skilled tradespeople. Communities throughout the state and nation need highly skilled carpenters, electricians, HVAC, plumbers, and other tradespeople to build new homes and facilities, and to keep the lights on and the water flowing.

That high demand for talent means high wages. For example, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, construction managers earn a median salary of $95,260 per year. The median salary for power line workers is $65,700 per year, and plumbers, pipefitters, and steamfitters make $55,160 per year. Carpenters, electricians, HVAC repairmen, and site survey technicians each earn median salaries exceeding $48,000 per year.

As the cost at four-year universities continues to rise, career education programs such as those offered by Blinn allow you to enter the workforce more quickly and affordably. In most cases, program graduates enter into an apprenticeship with their first employer, allowing them to earn money as they bolster their newly acquired skills with on-the-job experience.
