The Office of Student Leadership & Activities
The Office of Student Leadership & Activities is the central resource office for all student organizations and is available to assist students with activity planning and to oversee all student sponsored programs on campus. Requests for presentations on the following topics may be made through this office: negotiating contracts, parliamentary procedure, conflict management, running effective meetings, planning a successful program, critical thinking, decision-making, motivation, fundraising ideas, and delegation.
Dean of Student Engagement
The Dean of Student Engagement Office is concerned with all aspects of student life on campus and seeks to promote and maintain effective student events and programs for the campus.
The Dean of Student Engagement is located on the Brenham Campus ANBR 225. The office is open from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. daily and can be reached at 979-830-4801
Programming involves initiating, planning, and coordinating events or activities. As a student leader, programming gives you the opportunity to create experiences that reflect the needs and interests of Blinn College students—while also helping you develop valuable skills and achieve personal growth.
Programs should benefit the student body. For example, organizing an art exhibit can provide attendees with an enjoyable experience, introduce them to a new artist, foster cultural exposure, and even offer opportunities to engage directly with the artist. At the same time, programming benefits the sponsoring organization. Planning and hosting an event helps members develop important skills such as event planning, time management, promotion, budgeting, and problem solving. It also provides leadership experience, from motivating a team to delegating responsibilities and making decisions.
When developing a program, focus on making the process a learning experience for everyone involved. Remember that your organization’s members are key to your success. By delegating tasks, you can complete multiple parts of a project simultaneously, build a strong sense of teamwork, and empower members with hands-on leadership experience. Involving all members not only helps accomplish goals but also fosters a spirit of collaboration and prepares members to be confident, capable future leaders.
