Texas A&M Engineering Academy at Blinn-Brenham Admissions Process

To be reviewed for prequalification, follow the below guidelines that match current standing:

Incoming freshman guidelines

  1. Complete the ApplyTexas application for Blinn
    1. Select Brenham as campus choice
    2. Select Engineering as major
  2. Complete the general admissions requirements based on your situation
  3. Submit official SAT and/or ACT scores to Blinn 

Transferring college student guidelines

Current Blinn College student guidelines

Students must complete the Blinn-Brenham general admissions process to be reviewed for pre-qualification. 

Minimum overall program requirements
Preferred requirements for this program are to be college Calculus I ready. To meet this preferred requirement, one of the following criteria must be met:

  • Complete MATH 1316 or above (or be in progress during Spring 2020 with an “A” in MATH 1414)
  • Score at least a 28 in MATH on the ACT
  • Score at least a 650 in MATH on the SAT
  • Score at least a 25/40 on the Blinn Math Placement Exam

Students who are Pre-Calculus ready at the time of application may be considered; however, students must be college Calculus I ready by Fall 2020. Pre-Calculus minimum requirements are:

  • Score at least a 25 in MATH on the ACT
  • Score at least a 600 in MATH on the SAT
  • Score at least a 20/40 on the Blinn Math Placement Exam

Transfer or continuing Blinn College students who apply to Engineering Academy should have an overall college CGPA of a 3.0 or better with all attempted mathematics and science courses completed with a B or better.

Beginning in January 2020, students are reviewed for prequalification and if found to have met the minimum requirements for the Academy, students will receive an email notification containing the Texas A&M Engineering Academy at Blinn-Brenham program application link. Students should then follow these steps:

  1. Complete the application found within the email notification 
  2. Submit required documents to Texas A&M as outlined within Texas A&M’s AIS portal 
  3. Questions about this application should be directed to engineeringacademies@tamu.edu

    Once a student’s file is complete with Texas A&M, decisions are normally released within 4-8 weeks. Students could receive a decision to this program as soon as April 2020. Decisions will appear in the student’s AIS portal and also are sent out by USPS.

  4. All students need to complete the Blinn Math Placement Exam. The test is all-in-one with 40 total questions covering both algebra and trigonometry. Score placement for the number of questions correct out of 40 is:
    • Pre-Calculus placement = 20-24
    • Calculus I placement = 25-40
    • College Algebra placement = 0-19

      Students in the program must place either in Pre-Calculus or Calculus I. Students may take the test up to two times. If the highest level achieved after two takes is Pre-Calculus, students must enroll in MATH 2412 (Pre-Calculus) over Summer 2020 and pass the course with a C or better to retain acceptance into Engineering Academy for Fall 2020.
  1. Students admitted to the program should confirm their acceptance as soon as possible, as program capacity is 100 students.
