Letters of Accommodation (LOA) Process

Blinn College is dedicated to providing equal access for students with disabilities. Student disability information is protected by FERPA and will only be shared when there is an educational need to know.

The Office of Disability Services (ODS) evaluates each student's documentation to determine reasonable and appropriate accommodations. Once approved, accommodations should not be altered. If students or instructors have questions about accommodations, please contact ODS directly.

Receiving Your Accommodation Letter

  • Letters of Accommodation (LOAs) are sent via email to the student’s Blinn (BUC) email account.

  • The LOA includes:

    • Student’s name

    • Semester requested

    • Specific classroom accommodations approved for the student

Steps for Using Your Accommodations

  1. Check Your Email:
LOAs are sent electronically to your Blinn email.

  2. Contact Your Instructors:
Reach out to each instructor by email, phone, or appointment to discuss your accommodations. It is recommended to do this during the instructor’s office hours or by scheduling a meeting.

  3. Address Concerns Promptly:
If you or your instructor have questions or concerns about your accommodations, contact Disability Services immediately.

  4. Confirmation and Implementation:
Accommodations start once your instructor acknowledges receiving your LOA, typically within two business days. Accommodations are not retroactive.

  5. Return Signed LOA:
It is recommended that students and/or faculty return a signed copy of the LOA to Disability Services.

Online Courses

  • For online courses, email your LOA to your instructor directly.

  • Allow at least two business days for your instructor to respond and confirm receipt.

Testing Accommodations

  • Inform your instructors at least one business day in advance where you will take your exams (either at the Learning Center or the Disability Services office). Earlier notice is encouraged.

  • If testing at the Disability Services Office, exams, quizzes, or finals must be scheduled at least two business days in advance. Contact Disability Services to set up a meeting with the testing specialist.

  • For more information on testing at Learning Centers, visit www.blinn.edu/learning-center. The Learning Centers offer walk-in testing, but private spaces require advance reservations.

Renewing Accommodations

  • Students must submit an online letter request form each semester to continue receiving accommodations.
