Math Placement Exam

The Blinn Math Placement Exam is used to measure a student’s preparedness for success in Pre-Calculus (MATH 2412) or Calculus I (MATH 2413).

  • STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) majors that are not eligible to enroll in Calculus I (MATH 2413) based on prerequisite courses or based on test scores (such as the ACT or SATs) should take the MPE.
  • Non-STEM majors, those that do not require Math 2413, are not required to take the placement exam. However, such students may choose to take the Math Placement Exam in an attempt to satisfy a prerequisite.
  • All Texas A&M University TEAM and Texas A&M Engineering at Blinn students are exempt from the Blinn Math Placement Exam; however, these students are required to take Texas A&M University’s Math Placement Exam.

  • Eligibility: You must have applied to Blinn College, have a Blinn ID number, and be College Ready in Math. (please note it is the student’s responsibility to ensure college readiness. If you have questions, please contact Academic Advising.)
  • Students with Disabilities: For students with a physical or learning disability, please contact the Office of Disability Services regarding testing accommodations should the need arise.
  • Placement information: Students may place into a higher-level mathematics course based on the following MPE scores.

    Course Math Placement Exam (MPE)
    MATH 1325 250-300
    MATH 2412 263-275
    MATH 2413 276-300
  • Cost and payment: There will be a $10 non-refundable testing fee for the test.
