Pending Asylum Student Admissions Checklist
(A student who has filed an I-589 Application for Asylum and it is pending with United States Citizenship and Immigration Services.)
Admissions Deadline
Pending Asylum students do not have a specific admissions deadline but must submit admissions requirements for processing prior to the start of a term to ensure ability to enroll in classes during the Add/Drop period for the term.
Admissions Documents
Initial admission items should be submitted through the student’s myBLINN portal using the Admissions Forms icon. Click the items below to be directed to the submission portal (you must have your myBlinn log-in). Some items can only be temporarily accepted via the portal, see these items as noted by the * below.

Residency Status for Tuition Rate
All Pending Asylum applicants are initially designated as a foreign tuition rate. You may be eligible for a change in your tuition rate under different categories that are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. You can request to have your case reviewed by submitting the Residency Reclassification Form with the proper documents.
The following items may assist you with your eligibility for a different tuition rate:

Did you attend at least 36 consecutive months at a Texas high school and graduate from a Texas high school?

Did you change your immigration status from your original entry visa status by filing an I-539 Application for extension or change of status with USCIS?

Have you filed an I-821 for Temporary Protected Status with USCIS?

Have you filed an I-360 Petition for Violence Against Women (VAWA) Deferred Action with USCIS?
