Festival Rules and Guidelines

All applications and entry fees must be submitted by March 10, 2024 (if you have not done so prior). The entry application link can be found below.

  1. The entry fee is $150 per choir participant. All participants will receive a detailed comment sheet from the judges and a rating somewhere between Divisions I (Superior Rating) through Division II (Proficient Rating) Division III (Needs Improvement). Payment by check, made out to the Blinn College Choir, can be sent to Daniel Bircher at 902 College Ave., Brenham, TX 77833.
  2. Awards will be given to each choir performing according to the judges’ scoring in the categories mentioned above.

The judges will look for tone, technique, interpretation, stage appearance and some other miscellaneous things such as clarity, repertoire, etc. We try to run an efficient contest and cater to your needs. We ask that you please observe the following guidelines:

  1. Three scores with measure numbered on each (please write the school name on each).
  2. Two or three selections as you wish within your given time (30 minutes, including warm up, entry and exit).
  3. Music selection is entirely your call… judges will comment on suitability of music for your group according to class, age-level, etc.
  4. You will receive a recording, on a flash drive, of your group…included with the entry fee (not a professional recording, but the recording will be made to the best of our ability)
  5. Monitors will direct you a to the contest “office” area where you will receive comment sheets, awards, etc.
  6. First and Second Division awards will be given.
  7. Those with more than one group should seat both groups in the room as space permits to facilitate efficient change and set-up.
  8. If you are using pre-recorded music, you are responsible to bring your own equipment and make sure that all connections and performance is into the 30 minutes.

A faculty or student monitor will greet you as you and guide you to the place that your choir will be singing.

Parking:

Parking is congested during the day on the Brenham Campus. You may want to unload students and equipment near the Schmidt Building. After that, please have the bus driver move the bus to available street parking or open lot area near the student center. Make sure that you have the bus driver’s cell number to call for a pick up, as soon as the event is over for your group.
