Texas A&M Engineering Academy at Blinn-Brenham Admissions Process

To be reviewed for prequalification, follow the below guidelines that match current standing:

Incoming Freshman Guidelines

  1. Complete the ApplyTexas application for Blinn
    1. Select Brenham as campus choice
    2. Select Engineering as major
  2. Complete the general admissions requirements based on your situation
  3. Submit your official SAT and/or ACT scores to Blinn
  4. Submit your Prequalification Form

Transferring College Student Guidelines

  1. Complete the ApplyTexas application for Blinn
    1. Select Brenham as campus choice
    2. Select Engineering as major
  2. Complete the general admissions requirements based on your situation
  3. Submit official SAT and/or ACT scores to Blinn
  4. Submit your Prequalification Form

Current Blinn College Student Guidelines

Students must complete the Blinn-Brenham general admissions process to be reviewed for pre-qualification.

Preferred Requirements

Preferred requirements for this program are to be college Calculus I ready. To meet this preferred requirement, one of the following criteria must be met:

  • Complete MATH 1316 or above (or be in progress during spring 2023 with an “A” in MATH 1414)
  • Score at least a 28 in MATH on the ACT
  • Score at least a 650 in MATH on the SAT
  • Score at least a 276 on the Blinn Math Placement Exam

Minimum Requirements

Minimum requirements for this program are to be Pre-Calculus ready at the time of application. Pre-Calculus minimum requirements are:

  • Score at least a 25 in MATH on the ACT
  • Score at least a 600 in MATH on the SAT
  • Score at least a 263 on the Blinn Math Placement Exam

* Transfer or current Blinn College students who apply to the Engineering Academy should have an overall college CGPA of a 2.5 or better on all attempted courses. In addition, all attempted mathematics and science courses must be completed with a B or better.

Students are reviewed for prequalification. If they are found to have met the minimum requirements for the Academy, students will receive an email notification containing the prequalification form link. After review, qualified students will be emailed a link to the Texas A&M Engineering Academy at Blinn-Brenham application. Students should then follow these steps:

  1. Complete the application found within the email notification
  2. Submit required documents to Texas A&M as outlined within Texas A&M’s AIS portal
  3. Questions about this application should be directed to engineeringacademies@tamu.edu. Once a student’s file is complete with Texas A&M, decisions are normally released within 4-8 weeks. Students could receive a decision to this program as soon as April. Decisions will appear in the student’s AIS portal and are sent out by USPS.
  4. Students may need to complete the Blinn Math Placement Exam. The test is all-in-one with 20 total questions covering both algebra and trigonometry. Score placement is as follows:
    • College Algebra placement = 262 or below
    • Pre-Calculus placement = 263-275
    • Calculus I placement = 276-300
Students in the program must place either in Pre-Calculus or Calculus I. Students may take the test up to two times. If the highest level achieved after two takes is Pre-Calculus, students are strongly encouraged to enroll in MATH 2412 (Pre-Calculus) over the summer prior to beginning the program in the fall and pass the course with a C or better.
  1. Students admitted to the program should confirm their acceptance as soon as possible, as program capacity is 150 students.
