Program FAQ

Through the program, students earn stackable credentials: a one-semester occupational skills award, a two-semester Level 1 certificate, a three-semester Level 2 certificate, and a four-semester Associate of Applied Science degree. With each award, students gain progressively advanced skills and are prepared for higher-paying career opportunities.

The 9-credit-hour Occupational Skills Award in Mechatronics prepares you for a career collaborating with engineers in the design, development, installation, and maintenance of intelligent computer-controlled systems.

The 18-credit-hour Level-1 Certificate in Mechatronics includes the same content as the OSA and also covers fluid power, digital systems, and industrial automation.

The 30-credit-hour Level-2 Certificate in Mechatronics builds upon the Level-1 Certificate with industrial electronics, microcomputer control, and instrumentation and safety.

The 60-credit-hour Associate of Applied Science in Mechatronics includes all the content from the Level-2 Certificate and teaches you to install, maintain, diagnose, and repair robotic and automated manufacturing systems.

All four awards can be completed on the Brenham and RELLIS campuses.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, electro-mechanical and mechatronics technicians earned a median salary of $60,570 in 2022 and work in a wide array of industries, including advanced manufacturing and robotics; telecommunications and information services; agriculture, food, and forestry; renewable engineering; transportation and logistics; and homeland security and defense.
