Welcome to Blinn College
Mental Health Counseling Appointments
- Please plan for your appointment to last for about an hour. If you arrive more than 10 minutes late for an appointment you will be asked to reschedule. Please arrive 15 minutes early to your scheduled appointment.
- Appointments must be scheduled in advance and are made on a first-come, first-served basis. There is no guarantee students can receive same-day appointments due to prior commitments or appointments.
- If your needs would best be met by another department at Blinn or by an agency/professional in the community, your counselor will provide an appropriate referral resource.
- It is important for you to keep all scheduled appointments and arrive on time. If you are unable to keep an appointment, you must call the Counseling Office at least 24 hours in advance. If due to a rare emergency or illness, you must contact the department and cancel as far in advance as possible.
- Just as you and your counselor work together to identify goals during counseling appointments, the ending of counseling also should be planned. Short-term counseling is provided, but please discuss with your counselor when you think you are ready to end counseling.
- At your first appointment, a clinician will recommend appropriate sources of support. The recommendations may include scheduling brief individual counseling (every 2-3 weeks) or a referral to more appropriate campus or community resource. This includes referrals for frequent, longer-term, or specialized therapy or a medication evaluation.
There are two reasons students may not be seen by the Blinn Mental Health Counseling Office:
- Any situations in which a clinician, in consultation with Center Leadership, determines that treatment within the Counseling Center would not be beneficial for the student, disrupt functioning of the Center, and/or pose a risk to the campus
- Lack of available appointments, which tends to occur toward the end of academic semesters

Appointment Formats
Mental Health Counseling Appointments
In-Person
Appointments are preferred. Students who wish to make an appointment with a counselor may do so by calling their respective campus or completing the online intake form. We are unable to guarantee same-day or walk-in requests.
For life-threatening concerns or when the college is closed, see Emergency Services .
Telehealth
Telehealth appointments are available for currently enrolled students to utilize while they are physically located in the state of Texas. Telehealth appointments allow a student to consult a mental health provider from the comfort of their own home. These appointments are held via video (TEAMS) and may be scheduled by completing the online intake form.
Appointment Availability
During high-traffic points in the semester, the Blinn College District Counseling Office switches to a single-session counseling format, primarily offering one-time, goal-focused sessions designed to address specific needs. Depending on the nature and outcome of these sessions, some limited options for follow-up may be available. Once final exams begin, our counselors are available for urgent, crisis-related services and will resume all services the first day of the following semester. Options for scheduling appointments will resume the week before classes begin.
