Blinn College Washington County Scholarship Frequently Asked Questions
The Blinn College Washington County Scholarship provides up to $1,000 in tuition support for in-district students for up to one academic year. The scholarship has no need requirements and disburses funds on a last-dollar basis. Scholarship funding covers up to 12 credit hours per semester and is available for up to one year after students have graduated high school or earned their high school equivalency.
The Blinn College Washington County Scholarship awards up to $1,000 in tuition support for one academic year. The following limits also apply:

Eligible students may be awarded up to $500 during any disbursement period as long as they do not exceed $1,000 for the academic year.
To be eligible, students must:
- have in-district residency status (an in-district student is either the dependent of or is a Texas resident who resides, pays taxes, or owns property in Washington County for the past six consecutive months prior to registering for the semester they wish to attend. - have graduated from a public, private, or home-school high school or earned their high school equivalency in the past year,
- complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at https://studentaid.gov,
- apply to Blinn College at GoApplyTexas.org,
- apply for the scholarship using the Endowed Scholarship Application at www.blinn.edu/scholarships,
- and maintain a 2.0 Blinn College GPA (if applicable).

Students who attended private school, were homeschooled, or earned a GED during the past year are eligible for the Blinn College Washington County Scholarship.
No. Eligible students may use scholarship funds for online courses or classes on any of Blinn’s six campuses.

No, the Blinn College Washington County Scholarship does not have any associated need requirements.
To be eligible for the Blinn College Washington County Scholarship, students must maintain a 2.0 college GPA. High school GPA and class rank are not part of the eligibility requirements.
Once eligibility is lost it cannot be regained.
Dual credit through Blinn College affects your GPA and must be a 2.0 or better. Blinn College does not transfer in GPAs from other colleges and will not impact a student’s eligibility for the Blinn College Washington County Scholarship.
This means that Blinn College Washington County Scholarship funds will be applied toward eligible students’ tuition costs after all other financial aid awards have been applied toward their balance. If at any time in the eligible semester a student receives financial aid grant funds, Blinn College scholarships not specifically for room or board, or an endowed scholarship, the amount of the Blinn College Washington County Scholarship will be reduced. Scholarships that the student receives from outside entities will not affect the Blinn College Washington County Scholarship.
Yes! The Blinn College Washington County Scholarship was made possible in part through funding from Fred J. and Edwina Day Hallstein. Mrs. Hallstein was a longtime foreign languages instructor at Blinn College and an active civic leader in Brenham, and this scholarship continues her legacy of supporting student success.
Additionally, the Blinn College District, Blinn College Foundation, Brenham ISD, Burton ISD, Citadel Christian School, Legacy Christian School, Miracle Farm, and individual donors supported the launch of the Blinn College Washington County Scholarship in 2022.
