Students interested in launching a career in emergency medical services can earn their EMT-Basic certification in just one semester this fall at the Blinn College District’s new Waller Workforce and Technical Education Complex.

Registration is now open for summer and fall classes at the Waller Workforce and Technical Education Complex. Located at 30029 Binford Park Road, the new complex will expand Blinn’s workforce training opportunities in the Waller region, offering programs designed to meet local and regional workforce needs.

Blinn’s Emergency Medical Technician Program prepares students for EMT-Basic certification through the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians and the Texas Department of State Health Services. The one-semester, six-credit-hour program provides classroom instruction, hands-on lab training, and clinical experience designed to help students build the skills necessary to respond in emergency situations.

“Emergency medical technicians play a critical role in the health and safety of every community,” said Zack Varner, Emergency Medical Services Program Director. “By offering this program at our new Waller Workforce and Technical Education Complex, Blinn is expanding access to high-demand workforce training and helping students take the first step toward meaningful careers in emergency medical services.”

The program includes training in airway management, patient assessment, basic life support, and emergency response. Students complete lecture, lab, and clinical components simultaneously, with lab instruction focused on psychomotor skills and clinical rotations offering supervised, real-world experience.

As part of the program, students complete 96 clinical hours. Clinical experiences include ambulance rotations, during which students ride third under the supervision of a clinical preceptor, and emergency department rotations, where students work with ER staff and encounter patients with a variety of illnesses and injuries.

To qualify for clinical rotations, students must maintain an 80% average in their coursework. Students also must earn an 80% or higher on the comprehensive final exam to be eligible for the certification exam. The program is open enrollment, but students must meet EMT testing requirements to participate.

Blinn’s EMT Program is designed for students who want to enter the workforce quickly while gaining the foundation for future advancement in emergency medical services. In addition to the Waller Workforce and Technical Education Complex, Blinn offers EMT coursework at the RELLIS Campus in Bryan.
