Blinn College District Music Department to present seven end-of-semester concerts

Faculty recital featuring Ethyn Evans highlights spring lineup

The Blinn College District Music Department will close the spring semester with seven end-of-semester concerts on the Brenham Campus, including a faculty recital featuring acclaimed tuba/euphonium instructor Ethyn Evans.

All performances are free and open to the public. No tickets or reservations are needed, and each concert will be livestreamed on the Blinn College Music YouTube Channel.

Evans will be featured at the faculty recital Thursday, April 30, at 7 p.m. in Finke Recital Hall. He earned a Master of Music in Tuba Performance and Pedagogy from Oklahoma State University and a Bachelor of Music Education and Leadership Development from Louisiana State University.

Evans has performed at world-renowned venues, including Carnegie Hall and the Sydney Opera House. He currently serves as Principal Tuba for the Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra, the Austin Civic Orchestra, and the Calcasieu British Brass Band, and performs with the Backburner Tuba and Euphonium Collective.

Evans has performed around the country with several professional ensembles, including the Dallas Winds, Houston Symphony, Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Tulsa Symphony, Tulsa Opera, Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra, Shreveport Symphony Orchestra, Texarkana Symphony Orchestra, Ft. Smith Symphony, Symphony of Northwest Arkansas, Lawton Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Lake Charles Symphony.

Additional spring concerts include:

  • Woodwind Ensemble, Monday, April 27, 7 p.m. in Finke Recital Hall (Schmidt Building, 800 College Ave.);
  • Jazz Ensemble, Tuesday, April 28, 7 p.m. in the Dr. W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center (600 Blinn Blvd.);
  • Brass Chamber Ensemble, Wednesday, April 29, 7 p.m. at the O’Donnell Center;
  • Symphonic Band, Friday, May 1, 7 p.m. in the O’Donnell Center;
  • Wind Symphony, Saturday, May 2, 5 p.m. in the O’Donnell Center;
  • and Percussion Ensemble, Sunday, May 3, 7 p.m. in the O’Donnell Center.

“These free concerts are our way of showing the public how much we appreciate the support our students receive,” said Todd Quinlan, Performing Arts Department Head.
