The Blinn College District choirs will join two area churches in a Community HymnFest on Monday, Nov. 27.

The concert will be held at 7 p.m. in the C.F. Schmidt Building’s Finke Recital Hall at 800 College Avenue (map) on the Brenham Campus. Free tickets are available at www.blinn.edu/boxoffice.

The performance, which also will feature community choirs from St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, will be streamed on the Blinn College District Music Department YouTube Channel.

Blinn Choir Director Daniel Trevor Bircher will be conductor at the performance, with Dr. Daniel Johnson, Blinn Voice and Choir Professor and lyric baritone, serving as organist.

The concert will feature the public unveiling of an organ donated to the Blinn Music Department a few years ago. Johnson said he wanted to feature it in a concert and reached out to offer an event that would bring the Brenham community together.

“The organ was damaged before its original debut concert at Blinn,” he said, “so this is really its first public unveiling as the repairs were completed this past summer. We are so excited to join with our community friends to sing some hymns and present our ‘new’ organ.”

Bircher said he is eager to serve as conductor of the joint choirs.

“A number of area singers and the Blinn choirs have been rehearsing separately and will join forces next week to present this concert,” he said.

Blinn’s Music Department offers small classes, one-on-one attention, practical learning, and accessible faculty so that students are actively engaged in a superior learning environment. Students can pursue an Associate of Arts Degree in Music that provides a solid foundation in the creative and technical aspects of music, including music theory, history, composition, and performance.
