Recitals and concerts will highlight Blinn's talented students and faculty

The Blinn College District Music Department will showcase its talented students and professors with 14 fall semester recitals and concerts.

“We have something for everyone and we’re always proud to show off our students’ work,” said Todd Quinlan, Performing Arts Department Head. “Several recitals will also feature our outstanding faculty.”

Highlighting the department’s fall schedule is its acclaimed Sounds of the Season holiday concert featuring the Blinn College wind symphony and choirs. That concert will be held Friday, Dec. 15, at 7 p.m. at the concert hall in Round Top’s Festival Hill. Tickets are $10 per person and are available at www.blinn.edu/boxoffice.

All other performances are free and open to the public. They will be streamed on the Music Department YouTube Channel.

The schedule includes:

  • a Friday, Sept. 22, voice recital by visiting vocal artist Dr. Rebecca Hays at 7 p.m. in the C.F. Schmidt Building’s Finke Recital Hall, located at 800 College Avenue (map) on the Brenham Campus;
  • a Saturday, Oct. 7, “An Afternoon of Mahler,” vocal faculty recital featuring Dr. Daniel Johnson, baritone, and Pamela Connolly, pianist, at 2 p.m. in Finke Recital Hall;
  • a Saturday, Oct. 21, Blinn College choir concert at noon in Finke Recital Hall;
  • a Wednesday, Oct. 25, Blinn Music Department Concerto and Aria Competition at 7 p.m. in Finke Recital Hall;
  • a Tuesday, Oct. 31, Halloween-themed recital by vocal music students at 7 p.m. in Finke Recital Hall;
  • a Tuesday, Nov. 14, Blinn College District Music Faculty Recital at 7 p.m. in Finke Recital Hall;
  • a Friday, Nov. 17, performance of opera scenes featuring Blinn vocal students at 7 p.m. in Finke Recital Hall;
  • a Monday, Nov. 27, Blinn Choirs and Community Hymn Festival at 7 p.m. in Finke Recital Hall;
  • a Wednesday, Nov. 29, woodwind ensemble concert at 7 p.m. in Finke Recital Hall;
  • a Monday, Dec. 4, brass ensemble concert at 7 p.m. at the Dr. W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center;
  • a Tuesday, Dec. 5, jazz ensemble concert at 7 p.m. in the O’Donnell Center;
  • a Wednesday, Dec. 6, symphonic band concert at 7 p.m. in the O'Donnell Center;
  • and a Thursday, Dec. 7, percussion ensemble concert at 7 p.m. in the O’Donnell Center.

Blinn’s Music Department offers small classes, one-on-one attention, practical learning, and accessible faculty so that students are actively engaged in a superior learning environment. Students can pursue an Associate of Arts Degree in Music that provides a solid foundation in the creative and technical aspects of music, including music theory, history, composition, and performance.
