Highway Construction

Offered in partnership with the Texas A&M Transportation Institute, our 15-week Heavy Highway Construction Program prepares you for a high-wage, high-demand careers in highway construction with salaries in the $40,000 range. Through the program, students gain skills in record keeping, plan and specification reading, math, surveying and site layout, soils and compaction, and hot mix asphalt (HMA) mix placement and field testing.


Program FAQ

The program is offered at Texas A&M-RELLIS in Bryan, Texas.

If you complete the program and complete advanced certifications, you can begin your career as a heavy equipment operator, asphalt mix specialist, or paving crew member. If you want to become a supervisor, you can also reach your goals through this program.

Through this program, you get hands-on experience with industry experts at the material plants and on the equipment used to build roads. Throughout the program, you are introduced to the companies seeking to hire you for available jobs.

The program is $5,500 and students can utilize the Duddlesten Scholarship at Blinn College as well as National Center for Infrastructure, Texas Asphalt Pavement Association, and Texas Department of Transportation scholarships. With these scholarships, students may have the entire cost of the program covered!

Registration is available at the A.W. Hodde, Jr., Technical Education Center at 2910 S. Blue Bell Road in Brenham, Texas.
