Graduation Deadlines

Students completing their required courses in the summer need to apply using the Summer graduation application. This application will open April 1 of each year. Summer graduates can choose to attend either the Spring or Fall graduation ceremony. Please indicate on the application if you plan to attend.

Yes, the application is used to indicate that a student is completing their degree, certificate, or occupational skills award and wants to have it reviewed and awarded when completed. Attending the ceremony does not equal graduating.

The Graduation Office reviews graduation applications throughout each semester. Depending on the number of applicants for that semester, it may be a couple of weeks before you receive a graduation status email.

Please note: the week of graduation in each semester is a busy time as we prepare for the graduation ceremony and other end-of-semester duties. Students who apply for graduation during this time may experience a delay in having their application reviewed.

Yes, depending on the timing of the application, when the changes were made, and which classes were dropped or added, your graduation status could change. If you are in doubt, please confirm with the Graduation Office which courses were reviewed for your graduation status.

The Blinn College District honor graduates have reached the three highest levels of academic achievement while earning two-year associate degrees. The distinction of Summa Cum Laude is bestowed upon those graduates earning an overall grade point average of 4.0 to 3.9. Magna Sum Laude is awarded to those graduates with grade point averages of 3.89 to 3.70. Cum Laude graduates are those with grade point averages of 3.69 to 3.50.

Honor graduates are recognized in the printed graduation program, based on their last calculated grade point average. The program is printed before the current semester’s final grades are turned in by the instructors.

The Blinn College District does not provide cords or stoles to honor graduates. The title of honor graduate is not printed on diplomas or transcripts.

Blinn hosts a commencement ceremony at the end of the Spring and Fall semesters. Please view the Graduation Ceremony Information page for location, date, and time information. The location will alternate between Brenham and Bryan.

Blinn has a graduation ceremony at the end of the Spring and Fall semesters. Spring and Fall graduates can indicate on the application if they plan to participate in the respective ceremony. Summer graduates can choose to attend either the Spring or Fall graduation ceremony. Please indicate on the application if you plan to attend.

Graduation applicants for Spring or Fall who are on track to graduate during their respective semester will have their name printed in the program if they meet the application deadline. Summer applicants who plan to attend the Spring ceremony will be listed in the Spring program if they meet the deadline. All graduates from the prior Summer graduation will be listed in the Fall graduation program. The deadline is typically 3 weeks before the ceremony to allow time for editing and printing of the program. Please refer to the Ceremony Information for the specific date.

Flash Photography (www.flashphotography.com) will be taking professional pictures throughout the ceremony. At the ceremony, each student participating in the ceremony will fill out an information card and will be contacted when proofs are ready.

You may invite as many guests as you would like, and we do not issue tickets or reserve seats. However, seating is limited. If your guests need assistance with seating requirements, please contact the Disability Services Office (979-830-4157) at least two weeks before the ceremony so that arrangements can be made.

The ceremony is a distinguished event. Please dress tastefully, and keep in mind the robe is knee- to shin length. Slacks or knee-length skirts are appropriate. You may be standing for an hour or longer, so please wear comfortable shoes.

The ceremony typically lasts 1.5 hours.
