Welcome to Blinn College
Awarding Process
There are many factors used to determine a student's eligibility for financial aid. Your financial aid package primarily will be based on the number of credit hours you enroll in for a semester. If you know you will be enrolled in less than 12 contact hours during a semester, please email us at finaid@blinn.edu, so the Financial Aid Office can make adjustments in advance.
Most financial aid awards are based on federal and state regulations. All grant awards other than the Pell Grant have limited funds available. Additional grant funds are added to students financial aid packages based on the date their FAFSA was submitted, eligibility for the specific grants, and when they completed all of the requirements in Financial Aid.
Once your financial aid package has been completed , you will receive an email telling you to review your financial aid package in the Financial Aid Checklist in myBLINN. If any change is made to your amounts or types of financial aid , you will receive a follow-up email to your Blinn email account explaining that a change has taken place. If you did not request an adjustment or are not sure what happened, please contact our office at finaid@blinn.edu. Students not wishing to consent to the use of electronic records (myBLINN, email, etc.) must provide written request on paper, not email, to be exempt from this process to the Financial Aid Office. The request must include the student’s name, ID number, and their desire not to consent to the use of electronic records.
Pell Grant will be accepted automatically. Each student has a limit of how much they can receive per year and in a lifetime. You can review the Pell Grant limits based on the Student Aid Index (SAI) on the FAFSA.
The Pell Grant is prorated based on your enrollment. You can see this amount for the various SAI(s) as well. The Pell Grant can be received for less than six hours of enrollment based on the students’ SAI.
If you want part or all of the loan(s) that were included in your financial aid package, you need to complete the following:
- Login to myBLINN and accept the Federal Direct loans. You will need to determine how much you wish to borrow. This is a loan, so you will be required to pay it back over time.
- Complete your Master Promissory Note at https://studentaid.gov/ . You will need to login with your FSA ID.
- If you have never borrowed a Federal Direct Student Loan, you will need to complete Direct Loan Entrance Counseling at https://studentaid.gov/ .
- If you have borrowed before and this is your first time to attend Blinn, log into https://studentaid.gov/ and have your previously completed Entrance Counseling sent to Blinn.
These grants must be accepted within 30 days of being awarded or they will be canceled and awarded to other students.
These are federal or state grants that have various requirements. The school’s allocation of funding is limited. Your eligibility for these funds will be reviewed when you are awarded.
Enrollment Level | Amount Disbursed |
---|---|
12 or more hours | 100% of the awarded amount |
