Program overview

The Dental Hygiene Program prepares students for careers as licensed dental hygienists. The program combines classroom instruction, laboratory practice, and clinical experience to prepare graduates for entry-level employment in dental hygiene.

Please note: Admission to Blinn College does not guarantee admission into the Dental Hygiene Program. Admission to the program is competitive and requires a complete application packet.

Admission requirements

Applicants must meet all Blinn College admission requirements and program requirements before being considered for the Dental Hygiene Program.

  • Admission to Blinn College
  • Completion of required prerequisite courses
  • Minimum GPA requirements
  • Completion of the ATI TEAS entrance examination
  • Submission of a complete Dental Hygiene application packet

Required prerequisite courses

Applicants must complete prerequisite coursework prior to admission into the Dental Hygiene Program.

  • BIOL 2401 – Anatomy and Physiology I
  • BIOL 2402 – Anatomy and Physiology II
  • CHEM 1406 – Introductory Chemistry
  • ENGL 1301 – Composition I
  • PSYC 2301 – General Psychology
  • SOCI 1301 – Introduction to Sociology

Application point system

Applicants are ranked using a point system that may include factors such as:

  • Grade point average (GPA)
  • Grades in prerequisite courses
  • ATI TEAS examination score
  • Completion of additional recommended coursework

Applicants with the highest point totals may be selected for admission into the program.

ATI TEAS examination

All applicants must complete the ATI TEAS entrance examination as part of the application process.

  • The test measures readiness for health sciences programs.
  • Scores must meet the program’s minimum requirements.
  • Applicants may be limited in the number of attempts allowed.

Health and immunization requirements

Students admitted into the Dental Hygiene Program must comply with Health Sciences clinical requirements prior to participating in clinical experiences.

  • Immunization records
  • TB screening
  • CPR certification
  • Background check and drug screening

Additional documentation may be required before clinical placement.

Application deadlines

Applications must be submitted by the published deadline each year. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.

Check with the Dental Hygiene Program office for the most current application deadline.
