Blinn livestock judging team places fourth at San Antonio contest

Dax DeLozier leads effort as ninth high individual overall

Dax DelozierThe Blinn College livestock judging team placed fourth Saturday at the highly competitive San Antonio Livestock Exposition.

Blinn totaled 4,569 points in the junior college competition, placing first in sheep, second in cattle, third in swine, and fourth in reasons.

Dax DeLozier, a sophomore from Adair, Okla., was the ninth high individual to pace Blinn. He was eighth in sheep and 11 th in swine.

Others placing for Blinn were Kinsey Gardner, first in sheep; Cassie Bennett, first in goats; Weston Hinze, second in sheep and fifth in cattle; Bryson Stone, fourth in cattle; and Devyn Gaff, ninth in reasons.

Blinn remained second among community colleges in LivestockJudging.com’s national rankings. The team has placed in the top five at every competition it has entered during the 2023-24 judging season.

Blinn will compete next in the Houston Livestock Show’s intercollegiate judging competition on March 11.

Livestock judging is part of Blinn’s Agricultural Sciences Program, which has one of the most active extracurricular programs in the state, including the Agriculture Club, wildlife, agriculture mechanics, and horticulture. Blinn offers agriculture classes on all its campuses, with the W.J. “Bill” Rankin Agricultural Complex on the Brenham Campus serving as the program’s headquarters.
