Purpose
Athletic awards are granted in recognition for athletic participation and service to Blinn College.
Eligibility
The following persons may be eligible for an athletic award:
- Student athlete
- Student trainer
- Student managers
- Graduate student assistant
In addition, the head coach of each sport will be provided with a team photo each year. Each full-time coach may, at the discretion of the Chancellor of the college, be given one award watch during his tenure at Blinn College.
This award shall be in addition to any award granted to the students and staff by any outside entity, e.g., bowl game award.
Selection Criteria and Process
The head coach of each intercollegiate sport shall submit his recommendations of those athletes who are eligible to receive an award to the director of athletics. The head coach shall have the prerogative to issue or withhold an award due to extenuating circumstances. In all cases, those receiving the award must complete the season as a member of the team in order to qualify for his/her award.
If a student-athlete is submitted for an athletic award and has not complied with the general and specific requirements for the award, a written explanation from the coach of that particular sport must indicate the reason for the recommendation.
Among the other factors that shall be considered in selecting the recipients are:
- Uphold the image of Blinn College
- Academic standing
- Sportsmanship
- Student conduct
- Adherence to training rules
Awards
The first year award shall be a 12"x15" plaque with a color photograph of the team with the following legend imprinted on the blue plates:
- School year
- College name
- Mascot name (Buccaneers)
- Identification of players in the picture
The second year award shall be a custom designed award watch.
The director of athletics shall annually advise the Chancellor about the selection, cost, and procurement of athletic awards.
