Students interested in a hands-on healthcare career helping patients regain mobility, strength, and independence can now apply to the Blinn College District’s Physical Therapist Assistant Program for fall 2027.

Based at Texas A&M-RELLIS in Bryan, Blinn’s Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Program combines classroom instruction, extensive laboratory training, and real-world clinical experience to prepare students for careers in hospitals, rehabilitation centers, outpatient clinics, home health, nursing homes, school systems, and other healthcare settings.

Applications are open now through March 1, 2027.

“Physical therapist assistants have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in their patients’ lives every day,” said Kelsey Maki, Blinn’s Physical Therapist Assistant Program Director. “Our students receive extensive hands-on preparation and clinical experience so they graduate with the skills and confidence to begin rewarding careers in this growing healthcare field.”

Physical therapist assistants work under the supervision of licensed physical therapists to help patients recover from injuries and illnesses and return to the activities of daily living. PTAs may teach exercises that improve mobility, strength, and coordination; train patients to use crutches, canes, walkers, and other assistive devices; and provide treatments such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation, heat, cold, and massage.

Blinn students gain hands-on experience in the College’s Physical Therapy Lab and through clinical experiences at area physical therapy facilities. The program’s approximately 63-semester-hour curriculum leads to an Associate of Applied Science degree and includes specialized physical therapy coursework as well as anatomy and physiology, psychology, medical terminology, and other general education courses.

The program begins each fall and typically enrolls 16-22 students per cohort, with a maximum of 25 students. Because admission is competitive, prospective students are encouraged to begin the application process early and attend one of the program’s upcoming information sessions.

Upcoming sessions include:

  • Friday, Oct. 30, at noon — in person
  • Friday, Nov. 20, at 10 a.m. — in person
  • Friday, Dec. 11, at 9 a.m. — virtual

The in-person sessions will be held in Academic Complex Building 1, Room 219, at Texas A&M-RELLIS. Students can learn more about the profession, program curriculum, admissions requirements, clinical experiences, financial aid, and the application process.

Applicants must be admitted to the Blinn College District and be Texas Success Initiative compliant or exempt. The PTA application also requires official college transcripts, completion of program prerequisites, an ATI TEAS overall score of at least 65%, and at least 20 observation hours in a physical therapy setting. Prerequisite courses may be in progress when students apply but must be completed before beginning the program.

Financial aid and scholarship opportunities are available to eligible students, including Blinn College endowed scholarships and the Auggie Darr Babbitt Physical Therapist Assistant Scholarship.

Upon graduation, students earn an Associate of Applied Science degree and are eligible to take the National Physical Therapy Examination required for licensure as a physical therapist assistant.
