October 29, 2026

The Blinn College District has received the 2026 Implementation Excellence Award from Flywire, a global payments and financial technology company, recognizing the College’s successful implementation of a modern student payment system.

Blinn was honored during the third annual Fusion Star Awards ceremony at Flywire’s Fusion 2026 conference in Austin, where more than 150 higher education professionals gathered to recognize institutions demonstrating innovation, operational excellence, and a commitment to improving the student experience.

Blinn received the award for its implementation of Flywire’s Student Financial Software (SFS), integrated with the College’s Ellucian Banner student information system. The technology provides students with a modern payment experience while automating financial reconciliation processes for the College’s Business Office.

Blinn distinguished itself through exceptional collaboration across departments, technical execution, and proactive communication throughout the implementation process. The College successfully met every major project milestone on schedule, ensuring a smooth transition to the new system.

Theodora Katahena accepted the award on Blinn’s behalf during the conference. Blinn Controller Carol Hutson and Vicki Wooten also played key roles in the successful implementation.

“This project required close coordination, careful planning, and a shared commitment to getting every detail right,” said Dr. Clen Burton, Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance and Chief Financial Officer. “Our team worked together to implement a system that makes the payment process more convenient for students while streamlining important financial operations. We are proud to see their efforts recognized nationally.”

Blinn was among a distinguished group of institutions recognized during the Fusion Star Awards. Other 2026 recipients included Penn State University, the University of California, Irvine, Texas A&M University, and the University of North Texas.

“The Fusion Star Awards celebrate visionary institutions redefining the future of higher education,” said Sharon Butler, Flywire co-president of Education. “These trailblazers have gone above and beyond to eliminate friction, drive affordability, and create extraordinary student experiences.”
