Blinn College invites prospective students to go behind the scenes at Theatre Experience: All-Access

Oct. 29 event offers students, families, and theatre educators an immersive look at the Blinn College Theatre Arts Program

The Blinn College District invites prospective students, their families, and high school theatre educators to step behind the curtain and experience Blinn College Theatre Arts firsthand during the inaugural Theatre Experience: All-Access on Thursday, Oct. 29.

Designed primarily for high school juniors and seniors considering their next step after graduation, the event will immerse guests in a full day of theatre at Blinn. Participants will attend Blinn theatre classes, take part in hands-on activities and workshops, meet current Blinn students and faculty, explore the campus, see a production in progress, and experience an evening improv performance. All classes, workshops, activities, and performances are offered at no cost.

“Theatre Experience: All-Access gives prospective students an opportunity to experience our program,” Theatre Arts Instructor Jennifer Patrick said. “They can participate in a class, step onto the stage, meet our students, and see the creativity and collaboration that go into a Blinn production. We want them to leave with a real sense of what it would be like to become part of our theatre community.”

The day begins at 9 a.m. with check-in and orientation before participants join Blinn students in DRAM 1332: Stage Movement. Guests then attend DRAM 1341: Costumes, where they can observe and participate in active coursework.

At noon, participants can join current Blinn Theatre Arts students and faculty for lunch in the campus cafeteria for $5. The lunch provides an informal opportunity to meet members of the Blinn theatre community and learn more about the student experience.

During the afternoon, guests will take part in a stage workshop featuring choreography from Blinn’s production of “Little Shop of Horrors.”

Participants also get a behind-the-scenes look at “Little Shop of Horrors,” including puppets, costumes, and scenery under construction, while learning more about the design and production process.

Later in the afternoon, guests can meet members of SlapHappy, Blinn’s improv troupe, and learn an improv game or two before attending the troupe’s 7 p.m. performance. Prospective students may even be invited to participate in selected games during the show.

Throughout the experience, prospective students will have opportunities to connect with Blinn faculty and current students while discovering the many ways they can get involved both onstage and behind the scenes.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to accompany students throughout the day. Guests will have the opportunity to meet with representatives from Blinn College Admissions, Prospective Student Relations, and academic leadership to learn more about enrollment, academic programs, and student life.

High school theatre teachers and program directors also are invited to attend and experience the program alongside their students.

There is no charge to participate in Theatre Experience: All-Access activities, classes, workshops, or performances. Participants may join Blinn Theatre Arts students and faculty for lunch for $5.
