Three Blinn College District faculty members recognized with 2026 NISOD Excellence Awards

Jobi Brock, Dr. Mischa Enos, and Jason Loyd are honored for excellence in teaching, leadership, and service to students

Three Blinn College District faculty members have received 2026 National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) Excellence Awards in recognition of their dedication to student success, instructional excellence, and service to the College community.

This year’s honorees are Jobi Brock, Kinesiology Professor; Dr. Mischa Enos, Professor of English and Parallel Studies; and Jason Loyd, Director of Fire Science Technology.

“Jobi, Mischa, and Jason exemplify the student-centered approach that defines Blinn College,” said Dr. Mary Hensley, Chancellor of the Blinn College District. “Each has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to helping students reach their goals while contributing their leadership, expertise, and creativity to the College. I congratulate them on this well-deserved recognition.”

NISOD is a membership organization that promotes and celebrates excellence in teaching, learning, and leadership at community and technical colleges. First presented in 1989, NISOD’s Excellence Awards recognize educators who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment and contribution to their students and colleagues.

Jobi Brock

A Blinn College graduate, Brock has spent approximately 15 years as a faculty member in the College’s Kinesiology Department, teaching courses ranging from health and first aid to exercise physiology, biomechanics, weight training, fitness, and conditioning. He earned his Associate of Arts in Kinesiology from Blinn before earning his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in kinesiology from Sam Houston State University.

As Chair of the Kinesiology Curriculum Resource Team, Brock has led efforts to develop master course shells for the department’s courses across face-to-face, blended, and online formats. He also incorporates hands-on, real-world applications into his teaching, including biomechanical analysis, emergency response scenarios, and case studies that challenge students to apply what they have learned.

Beyond the classroom, Brock serves as a Kinesiology Navigator for students on the Bryan and RELLIS campuses and helped develop “Coffee and Conversations with KINE,” an informal program that creates opportunities for students to connect with faculty, ask questions, and access College resources.

“I believe every student has the potential to succeed,” Brock said. “With the right structure, guidance, and opportunities, students can discover their strengths, build confidence, and grow into professionals who contribute meaningfully to their communities.”

Dr. Mischa Enos

Enos began teaching at Blinn as a part-time instructor in 2019 and joined the full-time faculty in 2021. She teaches Composition I and II, Developmental Integrated Reading and Writing, and Education Frameworks on the Brenham Campus.

Enos earned her Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Language from the State University of New York at Binghamton, Master of Arts in Applied English Linguistics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Doctor of Education in Human Development and Psychology: Language and Literacy from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

Her colleagues describe her as an educator who combines academic rigor with individualized student support. Her instructional strategies include active learning and scaffolded assignments such as “Dr. E’s Elixir,” a note-taking exercise designed to help students apply higher-order thinking skills while working with research sources.

Enos also served on the Quality Enhancement Plan Action Plan Committee that helped develop the stand-alone DIRW 0300 course and master course syllabus to better support students preparing for college-level coursework. Her expertise in language and literacy helped guide the course’s curriculum and resource development.

“Mischa goes above and beyond to provide individualized support, meet with students outside of class, and connect them with campus resources,” colleague Lisa Wall said in her letter supporting Enos’ nomination. “Many students attribute their academic progress—and even persistence in college—to the encouragement and mentorship they received from her.”

Jason Loyd

Loyd has served as Blinn’s Director of Fire Science Technology since 2023, bringing more than 20 years of experience teaching and training firefighters and emergency responders. Before joining Blinn, he spent more than a decade with the Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service and previously served as Director and Instructor of Fire Science Technology at Weatherford College.

At Blinn, Loyd has worked to expand access and flexibility for Fire Science and Occupational Safety and Health Technology students. He converted almost every FIRT and OSHT course offered by the College to an online format, providing students with additional pathways to complete their degrees. He also led an extensive program self-study as part of the Fire Science Program’s accreditation efforts through the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress and completed Quality Matters reviews for the program’s online courses.

Loyd also brings decades of hands-on emergency response experience to his teaching. His career has included service as a firefighter and emergency medical technician, including overseas assignments supporting U.S. military operations, and he continues to volunteer in the Brazos Valley fire service.

“My approach to teaching is centered on the success of my students by meeting them where they are,” Loyd said. “My success derives from their success. I strive to use different methods of facilitation to meet the needs of those in my classroom.”
