Blinn Theatre Arts Program announces 2026-27 ‘Monsters, Myths, and Mayhem’ season

Four productions will be staged at O’Donnell Center

The Blinn College District Theatre Arts Program will bring monsters, mythical heroes, and memorable adventures to the Dr. W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center stage during its 2026-27 “Monsters, Myths, and Mayhem” season.

The season features four productions ranging from a family-friendly musical to a classic Greek tragedy, along with two performances by Blinn's improvisation troupe, Slaphappy.

All performances will be held at the O'Donnell Center at 600 Blinn Boulevard on the Brenham Campus. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for Blinn students and children. Tickets are available online at www.blinn.edu/boxoffice, by calling 979-830-4024, or by emailing boxoffice@blinn.edu.

“Every great adventure begins with a little imagination, and perhaps a monster or two,” said Theatre Arts Instructor Jennifer Patrick, who is directing all of four of this season’s productions. “I want to bring to the stage stories that are bold, magical, and bursting with unforgettable characters. From mythical creatures to marvelous mischief, this season promises excitement at every turn. I can't wait for audiences to experience the creativity, passion, and talent our students will bring to this season of ‘Monsters, Myths, and Mayhem.’”

The 2026-27 season includes:

• “The Big Bad Musical” — 7 p.m. Sept. 24 and 25, and 2 p.m. Sept. 26 and 27. School preview performances will be held at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Sept. 24 and 25.
• “Little Shop of Horrors (Broadway Version)” — 7 p.m. Nov. 12 and 13, and 2 p.m. Nov. 14 and 15. Preview performances will be held at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Nov. 12 and 10 a.m. Nov. 13.
• “Antigone” — 7 p.m. Feb. 18 and 19, and 2 p.m. Feb. 20. School preview performances will be held at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Feb. 18 and 19.
• “All in the Timing: Six One-Act Plays” — 7 p.m. April 15 and 16, and 2 p.m. April 17 and 18. School preview performances will be held at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. April 15 and 16.

In addition, Blinn's improvisation troupe Slaphappy, will perform at 7 p.m. Oct. 29 and April 25 at the O'Donnell Center.

“The Big Bad Musical” by Alec Strum offers a humorous twist on familiar fairy tales by telling the story from the Big Bad Wolf's perspective. Facing a class-action lawsuit brought by Little Red Riding Hood, her grandmother, and the Three Little Pigs, the Wolf's fate ultimately rests with the audience, whose verdict determines the ending. The production is recommended for audiences of all ages.

In “Little Shop of Horrors (Broadway Version),” timid flower shop assistant Seymour Krelborn discovers a mysterious plant that sings, talks, and craves blood. Naming it Audrey II after his co-worker crush, Seymour soon learns the plant has extraterrestrial origins and plans for world domination. The production is recommended for ages 13 and older.

“Antigone,” one of the best-known Greek tragedies, follows a young woman who defies King Creon's order by burying her brother, whom the king has declared a traitor. Her act of defiance sets off a tragic chain of events that forever changes the royal family. The production is recommended for ages 13 and older.

“All in the Timing” features inventive one-act plays exploring communication, coincidence, and human relationships. It is generally considered appropriate for teens and adults.

The one-act plays include “Sure Thing,” where two people meet in a café and fall in love; “Word, Words, Words,” which centers on the philosophical adage that three monkeys typing would eventually write “Hamlet;” “The Universal Language,” which brings together a young woman with a stutter and a creative teacher who invents a wild comic language; “Phillip Glass Buys a Loaf of Bread,” a parodic musical vignette that captures an existential moment of crisis for American composer Phillip Glass; and “The Philadelphia,” where a young man in a restaurant has fallen into disturbing trance.
