Whether they are looking to learn a new skill, reconnect with their creative side, or simply enjoy a relaxing evening activity, community members can discover the art of pottery this summer at the Blinn College-Bryan Campus.
Blinn’s Summer Pottery Workshop will provide participants with hands-on instruction in wheel throwing and ceramic design in a welcoming studio environment. The continuing education course meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 p.m., July 7 through Aug. 6, in Building J on the Bryan Campus (map).
Designed for beginners and hobbyists alike, the workshop introduces participants to foundational pottery techniques, including centering clay, wheel throwing, trimming, glazing, and surface finishing. Throughout the course, participants will create bowls, cups, and other functional ceramic pieces they can take home and enjoy for years to come.
The workshop is open to participants ages 18 and older. No prior pottery experience is required, and all materials are included in the $250 registration fee. Enrollment is limited to 18 students to provide personalized instruction and ample studio time.
The workshop will be taught by Todd Overstreet, ceramics instructor in Blinn’s Visual Arts Department. Overstreet holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master of Arts from Sul Ross State University. His teaching emphasizes technical skill development, creative exploration, and hands-on studio practice supported by community engagement.
In addition to learning pottery techniques, participants will have the opportunity to unwind, meet others with similar interests, and experience the satisfaction of creating handmade ceramic artwork in a collaborative setting.
