Graduates from across the Blinn College District were recognized during spring 2026 commencement ceremonies held May 6-7 at Brenham High School.
For the first time, the College hosted two separate spring commencement ceremonies to better accommodate graduates and their guests as Blinn’s degree and award completion numbers continue to grow.
Students earning Associate of Arts (AA) degrees were recognized during a ceremony on Wednesday, May 6, while students earning Associate of Science (AS) degrees, Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degrees, certificates, and Occupational Skills Awards were honored on Thursday, May 7.
“Every graduate has a unique story filled with challenges overcome, sacrifices made, and goals achieved,” said Dr. Mary Hensley, Chancellor of the Blinn College District. “It is an honor for us to celebrate their accomplishments and recognize the bright futures that await them.”
Student commencement speakers highlighted the determination, ambition, and diverse experiences represented among Blinn’s graduating class.
Sadaf Shireen, who addressed graduates during the May 6 ceremony, is graduating in the top 1% of her class at Brenham High School while also earning her Associate of Arts degree from Blinn through dual credit coursework. Passionate about medicine and innovation, she has conducted research focused on the early detection of cardiovascular disease through biology and artificial intelligence applications.
She also serves as president of Brenham High School’s Health Occupation Students of America and founded MedTalks, a nonprofit that connects physicians with students in underserved communities to expand access to healthcare education. Following graduation, she plans to attend Johns Hopkins University to study molecular and cellular biology on the pre-med track.
“There is something we all share that is hard to explain to anyone who hasn’t lived it,” Shinreen said. “From the outside, this experience looks simple: classes, assignments, deadlines. But everyone sitting here knows it carries so much more. … This moment represents more than completing two years of college. It represents every time you chose yourself, every time you trusted your path, and every time you stood firm in what you believe in.”
Daniah Syed spoke during the May 7 ceremony. Originally from Karachi, Pakistan, she earned her Associate of Science in Education while competing on the Blinn women’s golf team.
After graduation, she plans to transfer to Texas Southern University to continue her collegiate golf career while pursuing a degree in political science. Syed hopes to advocate for student-athletes in Pakistan by helping create educational and athletic opportunities that allow students to pursue both academic and athletic goals simultaneously.
“Blinn has helped nurture my personal growth, academic excellence, social connections, and networking,” Syed said. “Most of all, I had a lot of fun, life-defining, and unforgettable moments.”
In total, more than 1,100 students completed degrees, certificates, and occupational skills awards during the spring 2026 semester.
Registration is now open for Blinn’s May minimester and the summer I, summer II, and fall terms. New students can apply to Blinn via ApplyTexas.org. Once admitted, they can register for classes through the myBLINN student portal. Blinn recommends that all students speak with an academic advisor prior to registering for classes.
