Blinn College livestock judging team wins San Antonio competition

Blinn continues streak of team titles

The Blinn College District livestock judging team had another top finish Saturday at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo competition, winning its third consecutive team title.

Blinn’s win at San Antonio followed team titles at the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo Intercollegiate Livestock Judging Contest and the Dixie National Collegiate Beef Judging Contest, also held in February.

In the team competition at San Antonio, Blinn was first in reasons, cattle, and swine; placed third in goats; and was fourth in sheep.

Jhett West was the top individual at San Antonio, where Blinn students captured 11 of the top 20 spots. West won the reasons and cattle competition and placed fourth in swine.

Paige Zimprich was sixth high individual, placing seventh in swine and 10th in reasons. Kenna Schram was seventh high individual, finishing fourth in sheep and fifth in reasons. Kayleigh Conant was the eighth high individual, placing fifth in goats and ninth in cattle. Hayden Fowler was 10th overall, placing 9th in swine.

Other Blinn students placing among the top 20 individuals were Ryleigh Gilfoil, 12th (third in swine and eighth in reasons); Maddie Mutina, 13th; Jenna Lindig, 14th (fifth in cattle); Carolyne Turner, 15th (high individual in goats and fourth in reasons); Luke Domingue, 18th (second in swine and third in cattle); and Nathan Oakes, 20th (seventh in cattle and 10th in swine).

Brody Newburn was eighth in goats and Vance Aaron was ninth in sheep.

Blinn remained in third place in LivestockJudging.com’s national community college rankings for the 2025-26 school year with a 1.469 power rating. It will compete in one more national contest March 16 at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

Blinn has top-five finishes at all of its 2025-26 contests, including first at the State Fair of Texas, Griswold Cattle Classic, Fort Worth, Dixie National, and San Antonio; second at the American Royal Intercollegiate Livestock Judging Contest, Top Notch Intercollegiate Swine Judging, and Tulsa State Fair; third at the National Barrow Show; fourth at the Cattleman’s Congress and the National Western Stock Show; and fifth at the North American International Livestock Exposition.

Livestock judging is part of Blinn’s Agricultural Sciences Program, which has one of the most active extracurricular programs in the state, including the Agriculture Club, wildlife, agriculture mechanics, and horticulture.
