Community members interested in starting their own business can gain practical insights this spring through a new course offered at the Blinn College-Schulenburg Campus.
“Entrepreneurship: I Want My Own Business,” a non-credit community education course, will meet Tuesdays from 7-9 p.m., March 24 through April 28. The cost is $99 and will be taught by Randy Majek, Chief Operating Officer of Majek Vineyard and Winery in Schulenburg.
Designed for individuals considering launching their own venture, the course will explore the fundamentals of entrepreneurship, including the advantages and challenges of business ownership, conducting market research, identifying customer bases, developing business plans, understanding financing options, and navigating resources offered by the Small Business Administration.
“This course will provide valuable information for anyone thinking about starting their own small business,” said Dr. Becky Garlick, Executive Dean of the Blinn College-Schulenburg Campus. “Starting a business can feel overwhelming, but this course is designed to make the process more approachable by giving participants practical knowledge and tools they can use right away.”
Majek brings extensive financial and business experience to the classroom. During a 35-year career in Texas banking, he served in a variety of leadership roles, including credit officer, head of a credit and loan administration, small business lender, commercial lender, and senior private banker.
“I hope this course gives participants a better understanding of the entrepreneurial mindset and the steps involved in launching a successful business,” Majek said. “We will discuss how to begin building a business plan and explore funding options that can help entrepreneurs get started and grow over time.”
Participants will also have the opportunity to begin developing their own business plan during the course.
