March 16, 2026

The Blinn College District will host a series of Accounting Career Showcase events this spring on the Brenham, Bryan, and RELLIS campuses, providing students with opportunities to explore careers in accounting and connect with professionals in the field.

The events will introduce students to the wide range of opportunities available within the accounting profession, explain the educational requirements to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in Texas, and outline transfer pathways for students pursuing a bachelor’s degree.

“These showcases provide a wonderful networking opportunity for students to learn bout the many career paths available in accounting,” said Kwohn Whitaker, Department Head for Accounting.

Each showcase will feature guest speakers from professional organizations and universities who will share insights about careers in accounting, professional certification, and educational pathways.

The events are scheduled as follows:

Brenham Campus — Wednesday, March 25

Featuring members of the Brazos Valley Chapter of the Texas Society of CPAs (TXCPA) and representatives from the Prairie View A&M University College of Business.

Bryan Campus — Thursday, March 26

Featuring members of TXCPA and representatives from Texas A&M University’s Mays Business School.

Blinn at Texas A&M-RELLIS — Thursday, April 2

Featuring members of TXCPA and faculty from the Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi College of Business.

All events will run from 10:30 a.m. to noon and are open to current students, prospective students, and members of the public. Attendees may come and go as their schedules allow, though an RSVP is encouraged.

“Our department’s leadership and accounting faculty are deeply committed to our students’ success. They have worked diligently to create meaningful opportunities for students to learn from and engage directly with industry leaders,” said Assistant Dean for Business Dr. Tressa Shavers. “This type of interaction and visibility is essential in helping students build confidence, expand their professional networks, and better understand the expectations of today’s workforce.”

Blinn’s Business Department partners regularly with companies and community organizations to host events like the Accounting Career Showcases, ensuring students across all business disciplines gain real-world exposure, build professional networks, and explore their many career opportunities.

Blinn offers associate degrees in accounting, business, small business management, and business administration and management, certificates in accounting, small business management, and hospitality management, and an occupational skills award in business management.
