Blinn College District Vocational Nursing Program honors 17 graduates

Traditional face-t0-face program prepares students for high-demand healthcare careers

Seventeen Blinn College District Vocational Nursing Program graduates were honored during a pinning ceremony Thursday, celebrating their completion of the traditional face-to-face program.

The ceremony took place at Champion Fellowship Church in Brenham, where students received pins symbolizing their transition from nursing students to healthcare professionals.

Graduates included Tristan Bermea, La Salle, Texas; Sidney Berry, Navasota; Zanquitta Brown, Burton; Melissa Bundrant, Waller; Taneshia Casey, Bellville; Harley Coghlan, Brenham; Olivia Cook, Bryan; Joseph Flores, Bellville; Ikinajawill Griffin, Brenham; Brianna Hernandez, Amarillo; Lauren Herzog, Brenham; Keyuana Hilliard, Jackson, Miss.; Labrayla Pool, Snook; Roman Raney, Houston; Daniel Robinson, Crockett; Maria Sanchez, Jewett; and Tavin Wampler, Katy.

Raney said the program is challenging but rewarding.

“It’s definitely worth it,” he said. “You get some valuable knowledge. The instructors are very committed.”

Raney said he chose the nursing field because “I have a really big passion for serving others.”

The 10-month program includes classroom, laboratory, and clinical training. Clinical rotations are held at hospitals and other healthcare facilities throughout the area. According to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, almost 98% of Blinn’s graduates from the program during the past three years have found jobs in the profession.

Program graduates can now take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN) and the Nursing Jurisprudence Examination and are considered licensed vocational nurses after passing both exams.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the 2024 annual median pay for a vocational nurse was $62,340, and employment is expected to increase 3% between 2023 and 2033, creating 16,900 new jobs nationwide.

Blinn also offers a blended online Vocational Nursing Program designed for students balancing a job with their nursing studies. The blended program allows students to complete their theory coursework online while attending face-to-face clinical and laboratory experiences.

A pinning ceremony for blended online program graduates will be held Tuesday, Aug. 5, at the Dr. W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center on the Brenham Campus.
