Blinn College Associate Degree Nursing Program Director elected to ACEN Board of Commissioners

Dr. Karla Ross will serve a four-year term with the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing

Dr. Karla RossDr. Karla Ross, Director of the Blinn College District Associate Degree Nursing Program, has been elected to serve on the Board of Commissioners for the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), one of the leading accrediting agencies for nursing education.

Her four-year term will begin October 1, 2025, and continue through September 30, 2029. Ross will continue to lead Blinn’s Associate Degree Nursing Program while serving on the ACEN board.

“Dr. Ross is an outstanding educator, leader, and healthcare professional, and we are proud to see her selected for this important national role,” said Michelle Trubenstein, Blinn’s Dean of Health Sciences. “Her service on the ACEN Board of Commissioners reflects her dedication to excellence in nursing education and her commitment to advancing the profession.”

Ross joined the College as a professor in December 2010 and has served as Director of Blinn’s Associate Degree Nursing Program since August 2018. A dedicated nursing educator and healthcare professional, she brings almost two decades of nursing experience and a strong record of academic and clinical service to her new national leadership role.

In addition to her work at Blinn, Ross continues to serve patients as an oncology staff nurse at St. Joseph Health Center, where she has worked since 2007. She has also served as an ACEN site visitor since 2018 and is a member of the ACEN Evaluation Review Panel.

Ross holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice in Educational Leadership from American Sentinel University, a Master of Science in Nursing in Clinical Research Management from the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Texas A&M International University, and a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences from Texas A&M University. She is a Certified Clinical Nurse Educator.

An active member of the professional nursing community, Ross belongs to the American Nurses Association, Texas Nurses Association, National League for Nursing, Texas Deans and Directors of Professional Nursing Programs, and is on the Board of Directors for the Texas Organization for Associate Degree Nursing.

Blinn’s Associate Degree Nursing Program is approved by the Texas Board of Nursing and accredited by the ACEN. Graduates are eligible to apply for licensure as a registered nurse and consistently perform well above the state and national averages on the NCLEX-RN licensure exam.
