Blinn to host free STEM Camp June 25-26

Sessions include 3D printing, solar, and robotics

A new summer camp at Blinn College will combine kids, science, and cool projects.

The first Blinn College STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Camp will be held June 25 and 26 on the Brenham Campus. Sessions will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Innovation (STEI) Building at 900 Prairie Lea St.

The camp is open to 10 seventh and eighth graders and registration is free.

The STEM Camp will help students build critical thinking and problem-solving skills through hands-on learning. Sessions include 3D printing, solar power, and a DoBot project.

Students will use Tinkercad software, a free internet-based app for 3D design, electronics, and coding. The camp also will feature a 3D printing demonstration.

For the solar session, faculty will present ideas on building projects powered by light. Students will work on their own projects in teams of two.

Campers also will experiment with a DoBot, a small tabletop robot that can be programmed to complete various tasks, including writing, drawing, and picking up and placing blocks. Students will be given a demonstration and then program the DoBot to complete those tasks.
