Blinn places three teams in top 10 at Tri-State Fair livestock judging contest

Jhett West earns top individual honors in Amarillo

Three livestock judging teams from Blinn College placed in the top 10 in the junior college novice division at the Tri-State Fair.

Blinn also had the top overall individual at the contest in Amarillo, Texas, with Jhett West compiling 672 points.

The Blinn No. 1 team took third place overall with 3,265 points. Blinn No. 2 placed fourth with 3,247 points, and Blinn No. 3 was eighth with 3,196 points. The Blinn No. 4 team was 15th with 3,103 points.

Blinn No. 1 was first in beef, second in reasons, third in sheep/goats, and sixth in pork. Blinn No. 2 was second in sheep/goats, fourth in beef and reasons, and 10th in pork. Blinn No. 3 was sixth in sheep/goats, eighth in pork and reasons, and ninth in beef.

Individually, West shined in several categories, placing second in beef and reasons, sixth in sheep/goats, and 14th in pork. Other top performers included Jenna Lindig, who finished sixth overall and earned first in sheep/goats, fourth in reasons, and sixth in beef. Vance Aaron placed 11th overall (seventh in beef), Sage Schenk was 13th, and Weston Hendrix finished 15th (fifth in beef and eighth in sheep/goats).

In reasons, Lauren Hyan was eighth and Carolyne Turney 10th for Blinn.

Blinn’s livestock judging is part of its Agricultural Sciences Program, which has one of the most active extracurricular programs in the state, including the Agriculture Club, wildlife, agriculture mechanics, and horticulture.

Agricultural classes are offered on all Blinn campuses, with the W.J. “Bill” Rankin Agricultural Complex on the Brenham Campus serving as the program’s headquarters.
