Blinn Ag Club named top chapter at Texas Junior College Agricultural Association convention

Kinsey Gardner named overall champion, Weston Hinze named reserve champion

The Blinn College Ag Club was named the 2024 Outstanding Chapter and Champion Sweepstakes Team at the recent Texas Junior College Agricultural Association (TJCAA) Convention at Texas Tech University in Lubbock.

The Outstanding Chapter Award highlights a college that has participated in the most TJCAA activities during the school year, including yearly events, major club-sponsored activities, and service projects in a community.

Kinsey Gardner, a sophomore from Gatesville, Texas, was named overall outstanding student and scholarship winner, with Burton sophomore Weston Hinze was reserve overall outstanding student.

Ag Club members also competed in 12 categories at the convention.

• Prepared speaking – Oliver, first; Rachel Hayes, third.
• Job interview – Owen Seidenberger, first; Brumnett, fourth.

• Animal science – Grant Kubala, first; Lane Higbie, second; Justin Speis, third; Arwen Bac, fourth.
• Ag economics – Gardner, second; Hinze, fourth.
• Ag mechanics – John See IV, first; Lane Hogan, second; Tyler Elkins, fourth.
• Entomology – Hogan, second; Speis, third.
• Equine – Bac, first.
• Horticulture – Seidenberger, second.
• Wildlife – Doise, first.

Blinn placed third overall in the scrapbook competition. Scrapbook organizers were Holly Alderson, Bimslager, Devyn Gaff, Gardner, Brooke Poole, and Ally Smitley.

Blinn’s Agricultural Sciences Program offers a variety of courses leading to Associate of Science in Agriculture and Associate of Science in Agricultural Business degrees. Courses include several concentrating on ag mechanics such as power units and construction.

The college also sponsors an Agricultural Mechanics Club that allows students to work on projects in a state-of-the-art facility and an Ag Club that is open to members majoring in an ag-related field. The Ag Club focuses on various areas of agriculture and allows students to explore specific interests, including ag mechanics, animal science, plant science, wildlife, and ag business.
