Blinn College-Schulenburg to offer introductory nonprofit management course beginning Feb. 2

Course shares proven strategies for managing nonprofit organizations

An experienced executive with almost 25 years of experience working in the non-profit organization management industry will lead a new course offered at the Blinn College-Schulenburg Campus in February designed to provide detailed insights into the field.

Brooke Garcia, the owner of the Weimar, Texas-based BDG Strategies, will teach Introduction to Nonprofit Management beginning Feb. 2, 2024. At BDG Strategies, Garcia serves as a consultant, assisting organizations in the development of accounting systems, management procedures, and strategic plans, and assists them in researching grant opportunities, preparing proposals, and board development.

In addition to her role at BDG Strategies, Garcia has served as Senior Vice President at SA Youth, Executive Director for Arts for Rural Texas, and Executive Director for United Way of the Crossroads.

“This is a perfect opportunity for rural nonprofit organizations to get the training they need without travel and hotel costs,” said Dr. Becky Garlick, Executive Dean of the Schulenburg Campus. “Students will receive a detailed overview of the nonprofit sector while examining issues facing today’s nonprofit leaders and managers. It will concentrate on practical techniques for successful board and executive leadership. Students will gain skills necessary for personal career advancement.”

Topics will include nonprofit governance and leadership, strategic planning and measuring performance, budgeting and finance, talent management, and marketing and fundraising.

The $599 class will be held from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on the first Friday of each month – Feb. 2, March 1, April 5, May 3, and June 7.
