Dr. April Kinkead has been named the new Academic Dean for the Division of Humanities.

Kinkead has been a Blinn professor for seven years and was elected Faculty Senate President three times. Serving first-generation and underserved communities in higher education has long been a mission of hers.

“Dr. Kinkead has shown great leadership in carrying out the voice of the faculty and has been instrumental in the implementation of multiple Academic Affairs initiatives that foster student success,” said Dr. Marcelo Bussiki, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs.

Kinkead also has served as a lecturer at Texas A&M University, Adjunct Professor of English at the University of Texas at Arlington, and an Upward Bound English Instructor at Weatherford College.

She holds a Master of Arts and Ph.D. in English from the University of Texas at Arlington, and her son is a current Blinn student majoring in criminal justice.

“It has been an honor to serve Blinn faculty over the years in the Faculty Senate,” Kinkead said. “I am excited to continue my service to faculty and students as Dean of Humanities, encouraging and supporting faculty excellence, as well as in meeting the needs of this new generation of post-COVID students. I am proud to work with so many talented and dedicated faculty.”

Kinkead replaces Dr. Pat Westergaard, who retires after eight years at Blinn.
