Sophomore relishes work on the stage, behind the scenes

As a child, Aliana Hernandez was shy. Now the sophomore from Brenham is center stage in a host of Blinn College Theatre Arts Program productions and soaking up new experiences as she prepares for a professional career.

“Acting and music got me out of my shell,” Hernandez said.

Theatre Arts Program earns awards at state play festival

The Blinn College District Theatre Arts Program received one of the highest honors awarded at the Texas Community College Speech and Theatre Association Play Festival, earning an Excellent Award and 13 individual honors for its production of “Romeo and Juliet.”

Excellent Awards in Technical Presentation (Professors’ Choice) were earned by Ayla Witt for stage management, Lanna Solomon for sound design, and Paige Stewart for makeup design.

According to the Texas Workforce Commission, a degree in theatre arts can prepare students for a variety of careers, such as actor, producer, director, and high school drama teacher.
