The Blinn College District Music Program will hold a series of concerts to end the year, highlighted by the popular “Sounds of the Season” at Festival Hill in Round Top.
Blinn’s acclaimed Wind Symphony and combined choirs will perform at “Sounds of the Season” on Saturday, Dec. 6, at 3 p.m. at Festival Hill’s 800-seat concert hall. Tickets are $10 and are available at www.blinn.edu/boxoffice.
“We are excited to return to Festival Hill for our annual concert,” said Dr. Sarah Burke, Director of Bands. “It has become a centerpiece of the holiday season for many in the community, and we love extending the opportunity to perform on a phenomenal stage to our instrumental and vocal students. As always, we will conclude with a sing-along to jumpstart the holiday season and can’t wait to make music with the audience.”
Other concerts are free and open to the public:
- Chamber Brass, Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 7 p.m. in the Dr. W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center on the Brenham Campus;
- Chamber Woodwinds, Wednesday, Dec. 3, at 7 p.m. in Finke Recital Hall in the Schmidt Building, 800 College Avenue on the Brenham Campus;
- Jazz Ensemble, Thursday, Dec. 4, at 7 p.m. at the O’Donnell Center;
- Symphonic Band, Friday, Dec. 5, at 7 p.m. in the O’Donnell Center;
- “The Greatest Gift,” a Christmas concert, Friday, Dec. 5, at 7 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1400 Niebuhr St. in Brenham; and
- Percussion Ensemble, Monday, Dec. 8, at 7 p.m. in the O’Donnell Center.
Choirs are under the direction of Choir Director Dr. Larry Smith.
Burke said the Percussion Ensemble that will wrap up the semester will feature several new works along with standard selections.
“We will perform ‘Roots of Bloom,’ a groovy new work for percussion sextet, and ‘Hexachron,’ a piece inspired by the metal genre,” she said. “It is an aggressively ‘groove-based’ piece that distorts time and leaves the listener wondering where count one might be. Our students have worked hard this semester, and we would love to see as many people as possible share in our students’ success by attending as many performances as possible.”
