Blinn College District expands Washington County and Austin County scholarships, increasing tuition support for local students
Enhanced scholarships now provide up to $2,250 in tuition assistance during students’ first year after high school
October 29, 2025
The Blinn College District and the Blinn College Foundation announced today an expansion of their Washington County and Austin County scholarship programs, dramatically increasing the tuition support available to local students pursuing higher education.
Effective immediately, eligible students residing in either county can receive up to $2,250 in tuition support in their first year after graduating from high school or earning their high school equivalency. The updated scholarship now provides up to $750 per semester for three semesters, an increase from the previous award of $500 per semester for two semesters.
“These scholarships reflect Blinn College’s ongoing commitment to access, affordability, and student success,” said Dr. Mary Hensley, Chancellor of the Blinn College District. “By expanding our scholarship programs in Washington and Austin counties, we are opening doors for more students to pursue an associate degree, workforce training, or transfer opportunities that lead to rewarding careers.”
The scholarships may be used toward academic transfer courses, workforce training programs, and both credit and non-credit classes, whether taken in person at any Blinn campus or online.
There are no financial need requirements, and the scholarships are awarded on a last-dollar basis, meaning funds are applied to tuition costs after all other financial aid has been awarded. Scholarship funds cover up to 12 credit hours per semester and are available for up to three consecutive semesters following high school graduation or completion of a high school equivalency certificate.
To qualify, students must:
- be Texas residents who have resided, paid taxes, or owned property in Washington or Austin County for at least the six consecutive months prior to registering for the semester they wish to attend;
- have graduated from any public, private, or home-school high school or earned their high school equivalency in December 2025 or later;
- complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at studentaid.gov.
- apply to Blinn College at ApplyTexas.org;
- submit the Endowed Scholarship Application at www.blinn.edu/scholarships;
- and maintain a 2.0 GPA at Blinn College (if applicable) to receive the scholarship for the subsequent semester.
