Communication Studies

Blinn's Communication Studies Program teaches you to communicate effectively with individuals and groups through strong written and oral communication skills, conflict management techniques, and critical thinking skills. Blinn communication studies graduates transfer to the state’s leading universities, including Texas A&M, Sam Houston State, Texas State, the University of Texas at San Antonio, the University of North Texas, the University of Texas at Austin, and the University of Houston.

The 60-credit-hour Associate of Arts in Communication Studies is designed for students planning to transfer to a four-year college or university communication studies program while providing flexibility for students desiring only an associate degree.

For specific advice, please contact an academic advisor.

This degree is available online and on the Brenham, Bryan, RELLIS, Schulenburg, and Sealy campuses.

As a Blinn Communication Studies student, you can transfer to a wide range of universities, including Texas A&M, Texas State, Sam Houston State, the University of Houston, the University of North Texas, the University of Texas at San Antonio, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Tarleton State, Lamar University, and Texas Southern. Speak to an academic advisor at your university of choice to see how Blinn credits will apply toward your specific degree plan.

Through the RELLIS Academic Alliance, you also can earn Blinn’s Associate of Arts in Communication Studies and apply those credits toward Texas A&M International’s Bachelor of Arts in Communication at Texas A&M-RELLIS. Through this pathway, you can earn your associate and bachelor’s degrees in Bryan/College Station and may be eligible to purchase a Texas A&M sports pass and recreation center membership.

A degree in communication studies can prepare students for a range of careers in industries such as public relations, non-profits, public service, government, media, and business. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, media and communications professionals earn a median salary of $66,240 per year.
