Blinn College livestock judging wins honors at Tulsa State Fair, State Fair of Texas

Blinn students take home individual honors at State Fair of Texas

Members of the Blinn College District livestock judging team recently placed at the Tulsa State Fair and won individual honors at the State Fair of Texas.

Blinn’s varsity teams placed seventh and 11th overall at the Tulsa State Fair. Kase LeRow was third in reasons, Will Spicer was third in cattle judging, and Fritz Anton placed fifth in swine judging.

Taylor Turner placed fifth overall in the freshman division while Blinn’s freshman teams placed sixth and 10th in that division.

Blinn’s freshman white team was fourth in cattle judging, 10th in swine judging, 10th in reasons, and ninth in sheep and goats. The blue team was third in reasons and seventh in sheep/goats.

Blinn freshmen had other top-10 finishes, including Cade Anderson, third in cattle judging; Avery Oliver, sixth in swine judging; Turner, ninth in reasons; and Weston McElroy, second in sheep and goats.

LeRow and Turner won the individual titles in the varsity and freshman divisions, respectively, at the State Fair of Texas. LeRow, a sophomore from Waco, also was the top individual at the National Barrow Show earlier this season.

Blinn’s varsity team was the overall reserve champion and high-point team in reasons. It placed second in sheep and goats, second in swine, and third in cattle.

Individually, LeRow also placed second in reasons, third in cattle judging, and second in sheep and goats; Anton was fifth in sheep and goats; and Brinkman was sixth overall in reasons.

The freshman team placed fifth overall, fourth in sheep and goats, fourth in cattle, fifth in reasons, and fifth in swine.

Turner also was high individual in reasons and swine judging. Coburn was high individual in cattle, Anderson was third high individual overall, fifth in swine, sixth in sheep and goats, and seventh in reasons, Oliver was third in reasons and fifth in sheep and goats, McElroy fifth in cattle, Halfmann eighth in sheep and goats, and Owings 10th in swine.

Varsity team members are LeRow, Kelton Poe, Spicer, John Reaves, Kevin Jendrusch, Quensey Torrez, and Fritz Anton. Freshman team members are Turner, Anderson, Gunner Coburn, Avery Oliver, Kyle Real, Weston McElroy, Thomas Owings, and Brady Halfmann.

The livestock judging team is part of Blinn’s Agricultural Sciences Program, which has one of the most active extracurricular programs in the state, including livestock judging, the Agriculture Club, wildlife, agriculture mechanics, and horticulture.
