Two Blinn – Schulenburg students published in online database

Both students placed in Blinn’s recent Emerging Writers Contest

December 2, 2013

Melanie Hovis Cengage Learning has selected two essays written by Blinn College – Schulenburg campus students as examples of effective, polished writing for students across the nation.

Cengage will publish academic papers by Melanie Hovis (Columbus) and Zachary Denny (Weimar) in its popular “Resources for Writers” online database, where students can find quality college-level prose. Hovis originally wrote her article for an American Government course, while Denny’s piece was written for Composition and Rhetoric.

Both students entered their articles in Blinn – Schulenburg’s Emerging Writers Contest, where they each placed in the academic writing category. The contest drew 137 entries and was open to students who had taken a course from the Schulenburg campus within the academic year, including dual credit and online classes.

“It has been incredibly exciting to see our students take the skills and techniques we teach in the classroom and apply them to write engaging works that inspire other students,” said English Professor Audrey Wick, who organizes the annual Emerging Writers Contest.
