Blinn's Turner honored by Rotary Club of Washington County
Executive Dean of the Brenham Campus selected co-Rotarian of the Year
August 24, 2020
Dr. John A. Turner, Executive Dean of the Blinn College-Brenham Campus, has been honored by the Rotary Club of Washington County.
Turner and Camp For All Director Kurt Podeszwa were recently named the organization’s “Rotarians of the Year.”
Turner has been a member of the club since 2018 and will serve as its president beginning next July 1.
William Grote, current president of the club, said Turner and Podeszwa were chosen for their help in keeping the organization functioning during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“During the COVID crisis, they both have been instrumental in continuing Rotary meetings through Zoom,” Grote said. “Kurt was instrumental in ‘hosting’ the meetings and Dr. Turner stepped in to lead the meetings in my stead. Both of them exemplified one of the mottoes of Rotary – ‘Service Above Self.’”
Turner said he is honored to be one of the recipients.
“To receive this distinction from my peers within an organization that values service over self is truly humbling,” he said. “I can’t imagine serving any other community but Brenham or any other institution but Blinn College. I am truly grateful.”
Turner joined Blinn in February 2018. He has served on a number of boards and committees, including the Washington County Healthy Living Association and Texas Arts and Music Festival boards of directors, the Economic Development Foundation of Brenham, and the City of Brenham Comprehensive Plan Advisory Committee.
He also serves as second vice chair on the Washington County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors.
