Blinn and Workforce Solutions' Career and Education Fair showcases free ESL, citizenship, and GED courses

Fair will feature games and fun while showing how Blinn courses can prepare job seekers for the workforce

February 13, 2020

The Blinn College District and Workforce Solutions Brazos Valley invite the community to join them for an afternoon of food, fun, and information about Blinn’s free English as a Second Language (ESL), citizenship, and high school equivalency (HSE)/GED courses.

The Career and Education Fair on Thursday, Feb. 20, will take place from 3:00-6:30 p.m. at the Bryan Adult Learning Center at 1700 Palasota Drive in Bryan. This family-friendly event will feature games to entertain the whole family while providing valuable information about Blinn’s Adult Education and Career and Technical Education programs.

Blinn Adult Education and Literacy offers basic, intermediate, and advanced ESL courses that ultimately prepare students for a career, to complete their HSE, or to enroll in classes taught in English. Students who enter the program can range from those who speak no English to those prepared for advanced courses.

The high school equivalency courses cover the four main areas of HSE preparation: reading and language, social studies, science, and mathematics. Students seeking to prepare for the Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSIA) also can enroll in the course in advance of taking or re-taking the test.

Blinn will follow the Career and Education Fair with the Adult Education Community Forum from 10 a.m. until noon on Tuesday, Feb. 25. Hosted by Workforce Solutions Brazos Valley at 3991 East 29th Street in Bryan, this forum will provide an overview of the services offered through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act. Designed to provide community leaders more information about the adult education programs available in Bryan-College Station, this forum will feature a panel consisting of Blinn’s Anthony Garcia, Workforce Solutions’ Donna Weese, and the Texas Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services’ Crystal Stark.

Blinn’s adult education courses are free of charge and are available in Brenham, Bryan, Buffalo, Caldwell, Hearne, and Navasota. For more information, email adulteducation@blinn.edu or call 979-209-7300.
