Blinn posts record Winter Minimester enrollment

Registration for the Spring semester is open through Monday, Jan. 20

January 8, 2020

The Blinn College District will be busier than ever this winter.

A College-record 2,160 students have enrolled in this year’s Winter Minimester, which allows Blinn students to make faster progress toward their degree by earning college credit during the holiday season. All of Blinn’s Winter Minimester courses are taken online, allowing students to complete their coursework while enjoying the holidays.

Blinn’s student enrollment total represents a 9.2% increase over last winter’s census date enrollment. Together, these students will total 104,448 contact hours, the hours of scheduled instruction provided to students. Contact hours are used by the state as part of the formula to determine state funding.

Blinn’s upcoming Spring semester begins on Tuesday, Jan. 21, and registration is available through Monday, Jan. 20.

For added convenience, Blinn will offer its full slate of student services from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11. Blinn will offer academic advising, enrollment services, financial aid, business services, disability services, and housing services, and staff also will answer questions over the phone (Enrollment Services: 979-830-4800, Advising: 979-209-7250, Financial Aid: 979-830-4908, Business Services: 979-830-6498).

To receive services in person, students can visit the Central Administrative Services Building, located at 3125 S. Texas Avenue, Suite 1900, at the Tejas Center in Bryan or the Blinn-Brenham Campus Administration Building, located at 802 Green Street in Brenham. Prospective students also can email blinnbound@blinn.edu with their name, Blinn ID number, and cell phone number to receive personalized registration assistance.

The first step for prospective students is to apply to Blinn via the ApplyTexas.org application. Once admitted, they can register for classes at https://my.blinn.edu or in person. Blinn recommends that all students visit with an academic advisor, and students can chat online with an admissions specialist between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, at www.blinn.edu/admissions.

Students must pay or establish a payment plan the same day they register for classes to maintain their chosen course schedule.

Blinn offers Fall, Spring, and Summer courses online and at its Brenham, Bryan, RELLIS, Schulenburg, and Sealy campuses. Blinn Online offers students greater flexibility in scheduling their courses, and academic and student support are available through the College’s online student portal, myBLINN. Blinn offers a variety of resources for students considering online courses at www.blinn.edu/online, including an orientation course, tips for taking an online course, tutorials, and frequently asked questions.

At the RELLIS Campus, Blinn courses transfer seamlessly into the four-year bachelor’s degree programs offered by The Texas A&M University System regional universities also located onsite. For more information, visit www.blinn.edu/RELLIS.

Blinn’s academic transfer rate is the highest in the state, according to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, and Blinn has partnered with Texas A&M University to develop pioneering co-enrollment programs such as the Texas A&M-Blinn TEAM Program, the Texas A&M Engineering Academy at Blinn-Bryan, and the Texas A&M Engineering Academy at Blinn-Brenham

According to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board’s CollegeForAllTexans.com, out-of-district Blinn students who enroll in 30 credit hours during the 2019-20 academic year save 42% in tuition and fees compared to students at public universities across the state. In addition to Blinn’s low tuition and fees, the Blinn Foundation offers more than 200 endowed scholarships available to incoming and returning students from a wide range of backgrounds, majors, and experiences. Current and prospective students can complete a single application to apply for all Blinn scholarships at www.blinn.edu/scholarships.
