Blinn College District student Paige Moyle named 2019 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholar

Moyle is one of 207 Phi Theta Kappa members recognized across the nation with a $1,000 scholarship

Blinn College District student Paige Moyle has been named a 2019 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholar and will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

"It is really exciting to earn this scholarship and be recognized by Coca-Cola," she said.

Moyle is one of 207 Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) honor society members across the nation selected as a 2019 Leaders of Promise Scholar from among almost 900 applications. The Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship Program helps new PTK members defray educational expenses while enrolled in associate degree programs. Scholars are encouraged to assume leadership roles by participating in PTK programs and are selected based on scholastic achievement, community service, and leadership potential.

"As a member of Phi Theta Kappa, I get to participate in community service and campus projects while getting to meet others from various departments," Moyle said. "It is a community-building organization, and since it is nation-wide there are a lot of opportunities to earn scholarships and join programs and conferences."

Moyle, a sophomore at Blinn College, is majoring in geology. She has been involved in PTK since Fall 2018 and was inducted into the Beta Alpha chapter in Spring 2019. Last year, she received one of the chapter’s Outstanding Member awards for her commitment to the organization.

"She is outgoing, loves to engage and participate, and balances her activities with her coursework while maintaining the high GPA required for membership in our honor society," said Dillon Phipps, Advisor to the Beta Alpha Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa. "Paige’s work ethic set her apart from other applicants because she is committed to excellence while also being self-employed and balancing her aspirations with her coursework. She is incredibly gifted at managing her time in spite of her many commitments, and I think this quality helped show the selection committee that she was a promising leader in our community."

Moyle enrolled at Blinn as a senior at Sealy High School as a dual credit student. She has since taken courses on the Brenham, Bryan, and Sealy campuses. Last year she was a drum major in the Blinn band and this year she is a member of the inaugural women’s golf team.

"I think Paige receiving this scholarship shows that we have dedicated, hard-working students at Blinn who have so much to offer as they develop into young scholars and leaders," Phipps said. "They are willing to take full course loads, participate in extracurricular activities, balance home and work obligations, and still make time to dedicate themselves to their interests and give back to their communities."

Phi Theta Kappa is the premier honor society recognizing the academic achievement of students at associate degree-granting colleges and helping them to grow as scholars and leaders. The society is made up of more than 3.5 million members and almost 1,300 chapters in 11 nations.
