Glenwood and Shirley Prenzler recently gifted $15,000 to the Blinn College Foundation to establish an endowed scholarship for Blinn College District students.

“These scholarships will help students at Blinn achieve their goals in fields that the Prenzlers are passionate about supporting,” said Sam Sommer, Blinn Foundation Chair. “We are thankful for their generous gift and desire to see future generations succeed.”

The scholarship will be open to students with at least a 2.5 high school grade-point average. Preference will be given to Burton High School graduates majoring in education.

“I attended Blinn College, had many friends here, and think it is a great place to get an education,” Glenwood Prenzler said. “We really want to see students who receive this scholarship further their education here in order to be successful in their careers.”

The Prenzlers, both graduates of Burton High School, spent their careers in education. Glenwood Prenzler attended Blinn, transferred to Sam Houston State University for his bachelor‘s and master’s degrees, and served as an administrator in the Houston Independent School District for 39 years. Shirley Prenzler spent 10 years as a high school registrar.

“We think that education is very important to young adults and essential these days to get a good job,” Shirley Prenzler said. “We would love to see students from our area receive a quality education.”

Students can apply for Blinn scholarships for the 2019-20 academic year by completing the application at www.blinn.edu/scholarships. Last year, Blinn awarded more than $273,000 to student applicants.

The Blinn Foundation is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization designed to provide financial support for programs and activities that enhance the quality of education for Blinn College students and expand educational opportunities for the entire community. The Foundation supports the College by generating private and corporate gifts for scholarships, academic programs, student activities, campus buildings, and special events.

While raising funds is an important function, the Blinn Foundation also seeks to heighten community awareness of the mission and accomplishments of the College and to promote excellence in education. For more information, visit www.blinn.edu/foundation.
