Four Blinn College District students recently were elected to state and region roles in the Texas Junior College Student Government Association (TJCSGA) for the 2019-20 calendar year.

Blinn-Bryan student Chyenne Michael will serve as state parliamentarian while Blinn-Schulenburg student Ubaldo Villasana will serve as state historian. Blinn-Bryan student Albert Richardson will serve as Region IV president and Villasana will serve as Region IV secretary in 2019-20. Blinn-Brenham student JD Roberts was elected as Region IV parliamentarian.

“I am excited to be elected and am so grateful for this opportunity,” Michael said. “I can’t wait to learn more about parliamentary procedures and working with my team. I am already looking forward to putting so much into the organization and going back to the state meeting.”

Villasana said, “I am excited to be elected as the state historian and regional secretary and am going to put so much hard work into these positions. I love being involved and making an impact regarding important issues. It is nice getting to meet so many people and there are always new members joining the student government in community college.”

Blinn-Brenham Coordinator of Student Leadership and Activities Emily Tiefenthaler assumed the position of Region IV Advisor Elect for 2020.

“I am proud of the Blinn students who take their passion for campus student government to the state and regional levels,” said Dr. Becky McBride, Dean of Student Engagement. “I am delighted that so many of our students want to be involved and all have a desire to serve their peers.”

Blinn-Brenham’s Addison Elstner and Mason Sumrall recently completed their roles as state parliamentarian and Region IV vice president, respectively. Both will attend Texas A&M University in the fall.

The Blinn Student Government Association (SGA) serves as a liaison between students and administrators, represents the voice of the campus student body, and makes improvements in all areas of campus life. SGA fosters community by hosting beneficial educational and recreational student activities and collaborating with Blinn’s Office of Student Leadership and Activities to support and oversee all campus clubs and organizations.

The Texas Junior College Student Government Association is the only student-maintained organization in the state that works to promote the cause of community college students at the local, regional, state, and national level. It is comprised of more than 72 member colleges across Texas.
